XRP Ledger: XRPL Devnet Records Official Stats Hashes in New BIS Test

BIS researchers published a proof of concept on September 2 that places cryptographic fingerprints of official SDMX datasets onto the XRP Ledger for origin and integrity checks while leaving the actual data off chain.

The Bank for International Settlements has shown that the XRP Ledger can anchor cryptographic fingerprints of official statistics without moving the underlying data on chain.

BIS Working Paper 1374, released September 2, details a proof of concept built on XRPL Devnet. The system computes a hash for each SDMX dataset and records that hash on the ledger so users can later confirm the data came from the claimed source and has not been altered. All original statistics remain off chain.

Authors from the BIS Monetary and Economic Department include Rusev, Schmidt, Lambe, Schmieder and Tice. Their views do not represent official BIS policy. The reference implementation is open source. Median time to publish a fingerprint measured 3 to 5 seconds. Verification of a fingerprint measured 1 to 2 seconds.

Market reaction across majors

CoinGecko data recorded around 12:40 p.m. ET on September 6 shows how major assets responded to the week of regulatory focused headlines. Bitcoin traded at 79,717 dollars, down 0.3 percent. Ethereum sat at 2,483.41 dollars, up 0.7 percent. XRP held steady at 1.41 dollars. Solana led the group with a 3.0 percent gain to 106.17 dollars. Dogecoin rose 2.0 percent to 0.089156 dollars.

Solana posted the strongest move of the session while Bitcoin and XRP remained range bound. Ethereum and Dogecoin printed modest green candles that aligned with broader alt rotation. The session lacked aggressive volume spikes yet showed steady bids into regulatory news.

Numbers that defined the session

Solana added more than three points while Bitcoin shed less than half a point. Ethereum advanced seven tenths of a point. The two percent lift in Dogecoin kept pace with Solana and outpaced both Bitcoin and XRP. XRP posted zero change, marking the flattest print among the tracked majors.

These moves occurred against the backdrop of the BIS paper rather than any direct adoption narrative. The ledger itself handled the test workload on Devnet with the reported latencies intact.

What the paper actually tested

The prototype focused solely on fingerprint publication and verification. No reserves, central bank digital currency frameworks, or payment rails were part of the experiment. Data stayed off chain by design. The exercise measured speed and auditability for statistical authorities that already publish in the SDMX format used by the IMF, World Bank, ECB and United Nations.

Traders watching the majors saw Solana and Dogecoin register the clearest positive candles on the day while Bitcoin, Ethereum and XRP stayed closer to unchanged. The session reflected measured positioning around the technical milestone rather than broad directional conviction.
